January
Gavin signed co-publishing agreement with Access Music for his songs: Look, You Got Your Eyes On Me, Holdout Annie and Crisis of Identity. February – April Gavin has written a bunch o’ new songs for his upcoming CD! He has taken to calling it, “Nashifornian” style. April – June Gavin produced 3 more songs for the upcoming “Mister Right Now” CD at 2K Productions with Scott Urquhart: the title track “Mister Right Now,” “Lesson in the Blues,” and “Having a Laugh on Me.” Gavin and Scott totally enjoyed working with talented singers, Noelle Hampton, Kym Jessing and Kevin Williams. As always, guitarist extraordinaire Erik “Weed” Schramm contributed awesome guitar tracks! They also got a nice contribution from mandolin player, Bill Norman. July 2 Gavin hung out with the folks at ASCAP NY, including his pal, Paul Mauceri, who tracks his royalties (very important friend!) and Erik Philbrook who oversees the printed publications. July 4 Gavin visited Ground Zero at the World Trade Center in New York City. He described it as an intensely emotional and sobering experience. Gavin will dedicate his upcoming CD to those who lost their lives on 9-11-01, and those that loved them who were left behind. Gavin found himself highly motivated to write, and 4 new songs were crafted while on the east coast. July 18 Gavin hooked up with his good friend, singer/songwriter Richard Maizell. They arranged for Richard to fly to California and record vocals for 2 of Gavin’s songs on the upcoming CD: “My Daughter’s Eyes” and “Never Far.” August Gavin has been busy writing more and more Nashifornian tunes. Considering he had Texan, Kevin Williams record vocals for one, and ex-Texan, Kym Jessing singing several more, he might have to call it “Nashiforniexan.” August 13 Gavin’s photo shoot was captured so nicely by ace photographer, Don Kellogg at 2 locations: Marin County’s version of the OK Corral (thank you, Carol), and at the Mill Valley Café (thanks to the owner, Phil!). August - September Gavin produced the last 5 songs for the “Mister Right Now” CD, putting finishing touches on “Been Where Done What,” “My Daughter’s Eyes,” “Needle in a Haystack Guy,” “Never Far,” and “Techno Stuff,” at Jimi Fischer Music Productions in San Rafael. Gavin enjoyed working with Associate Producer Jimi Fischer, a first-time collaboration for them. Terrific vocal performances by Kym Jessing, Kristen McNamara, Kimberly Bass, Richard Maizell and Michelle Lambert. These tracks feature great fiddle playing by Michelle Lambert, steady mandolin by Bill Norman, and the usual greatness by Erik Schramm on guitars. Gavin hired talented photographer and web designer Roger Rosenfeld of Click Web Services to update gavinlakin.com. October Gavin’s third CD, “Mister Right Now” was released October 7th. |
