As 2007 comes to a close, we look back on the year that was… January – May Gavin’s songs and CDs continue to sell nicely on various online stores including iTunes, Napster, MP3tunes, MSN Music, Rhapsody and BuyMusic. The songs from Nashville Sessions 2004 are made available for online sales. Gavin writes a collection of songs covering universal themes of love and loss, as well as his signature social commentary compositions exploring cheating with a twist, online confessions, and when a marriage lasts a little too long. Gavin’s web site is updated. June Gavin visits Los Angeles, inadvertently living out the subtext of his song (co-written by brother, Howard Lakin), That Girl in the Yearbook:
Got my nametag, got my beer
THAT GIRL IN THE YEARBOOK Gavin visits with many of his best friends who have congregated for a high school reunion. He gets the chance to hang out with his first piano teacher, Paul Roessler, a successful musician who hit his stride during the LA punk scene of the 80’s. Later in the month, Gavin spends time in North Santa Barbara County reliving the film, “Sideways.” Among the many highlights are eating dinner at the Hitching Post (where we first meet Maya), drinking Pinot Noir at Kalyra (where Jack makes his move on Stephanie), having dinner at Los Olivos Café (where, just outside Miles delivers his classic line about “not drinking any #!*@!% Merlot”), standing on the spot in the Windmill Inn (Days Inn) parking lot (where Stephanie bashes in Jack’s face with the motorcycle helmet), soaking in the same outdoor jacuzzi at the Windmill Inn (where Jack tells Miles there’s something fishy about how Stephanie discovers his lie), reliving Miles’ disappointment outside Frass Canyon Winery (actually Fess Parker) when he speaks with his agent (and discovers that his book has been rejected yet again), having drinks near the stuffed buffalo at AJ Spurs (where Jack picks up Cammie), and feeding the outrageous ostriches and emus (“Those ****ers are nasty!"). July Gavin visits Ashland and the amazing Oregon Shakespeare Festival! August – October Gavin begins negotiations for a licensing deal with the Alzheimer’s Association. November Gavin finalizes a non-exclusive single song licensing deal for My Turn Now with the Alzheimer’s Association. After receiving performance royalty distributions over three years from Canada, Spain, Australia and several other foreign performing rights societies, Promised Land, which originally aired on NBC’s “Passions” in 2001, delivers its first distribution from South Africa! December Gavin’s web site is updated. Gavin spends the end of the year in Palm Springs with friends. We’ll end this year with the second verse and chorus from a soon-to-be-released 2007 Gavin Lakin song:
Loss, you’ve taken up most of my time
NO, YOU CAN’T AVOID THE PAIN
-That’s Just Love |
