Gavin works on new songs

 Gavin performs “The General” at the downtown San Rafael Farmer’s Market with one of the middle school rock bands featuring students from the school where he works! 

June

Gavin travels to Ashland with his best friend, Matt, seeing the jazz fusion band, Return to Forever at the Britt Festival.

Gavin travels to Santa Barbara and L.A., gathering with high school pals

Another meeting at The Disney Channel and ABC Family

Gavin travels  over to Nevada City to hang out with singer-songwriter pal, Kimberly Bass. Huge forest fires! Dinner with musician pal, Brad Leigh and his wife, Patricia.

July-December

August

With help from Reeltime in San Rafael, Gavin transfers his entire song catalog from old technologies and storage onto audio CDs! No more cassette tapes!

Gavin drives up the Oregon coast and back down to California in search of beautiful beaches and the perfect Oregonian Pinot Noir

L.A. Lakers win the NBA Championship over Orlando 4 games to 1! 

Gavin attends NSAI’s Advanced Songwriters’ Camp in Nashville. This was an amazing experience on so many levels. Gavin met old friends, made new friends and forged new co-writing relationships. Over the 3-day event, Gavin participated in one-on-one sessions with hit songwriters, had lunch with them as well, and listened to many of his fellow songwriters performing their original songs. Overall, Gavin continues to be inspired by Nashville’s finest including, Angela Kaset, Hugh Prestwood, James Dean Hicks, Tia Sillers, and Rick Beresford.

July-December

July

Gavin, Ron Russell, and Anna Parish co-write “I Want My Sexy Back” and follow up with its Nashville-produced demo, featuring vocals by Megan Conner

Gavin travels to L.A. and San Diego for business meetings and co-writing.

Gavin has his annual gathering with high school pals in L.A.

Gavin and new co-writing friend, Diane Waters pen the song, “Sunday Drive at Three” with Diane doing the initial vocals

August

“I Want My Sexy Back” is shopped to Jo Dee Messina and Kelly Pickler

Gavin and his brother, Howard travel down memory lane and back to summer camp, to Walking G Camp in Plumas County. Rest in Peace, Bobby Watson.

Gavin finally opens up a Library of Congress eCopyright deposit account, a YouSendIt account, and buys a Zoom digital recorder. Say farewell to copyright cassette tapes and mailing applications via snail mail and hello to unlimited sending of large music files to fellow songwriters and music business folks via the internet!

Gavin opens his MySpace musician account

After long last, Gavin says farewell to his Sprint phone circa 2003 and gets a flashy new LG Envy Touch. His life isn’t yet on Blackberry, but it’s close enough. He can even text, unlimited.

Due to the suddenly obvious fact that MySpace is not as cool, Gavin opens personal and musician Facebook accounts. To date, he still does not Tweet on Twitter.

Gavin works with engineer, Jimi Fischer to finish mastering “Stealing Mona Lisa”

September

Gavin works with engineer, Jimi Fischer to finish mastering “Taking Them All Down” with Melisa Kary on vocals. He also has the privilege of working with legendary Bay Area guitarist, Peter Kaukonen.

October

Gavin shops “Stealing Mona Lisa” with NSAI and ASCAP

Gavin and Diane Waters complete the demo for “Sunday Drive at Three” with Doug Stokes on vocals.

November

“Sunday Drive at Three” is listened to at Lyric Street publishing in Nashville for the band Rascal Flatts, and receives favorable feedback!

Gavin submits “Taking Them All Down” to M.A.D.D.’s national office in Texas for licensing consideration

December

Gavin continues his marketing push, shopping four new songs in Nashville, L.A. and other markets

Gavin puts the final touches on his original songs from 2009

Gavin submits 12 more original songs to NSAI’s song evaluation service

Gavin submits six songs to Transition Music Corporation in L.A. to be considered for publishing deals

Gavin posts “I Want My Sexy Back,” “Stealing Mona Lisa,” “Sunday Drive at Three,” and “Taking Them All Down” on his web site, MySpace and Facebook. He requests that listeners post their feedback.
